Most devices and parts for them are built according to standards.

Just as there are standards to ensure co-operation between different DVD-discs, DVD-players and televisions there are standards on how different equipment connected to the Web can understand each other.

Documents published according to these web standards can be accessed by anyone, with any equipment and any connection.
